Gold and Oil Markets Report – 5 Nov 2018

Gold prices have exhibited strong support at USD1210 – USD1215 /oz area and demand has pushed the trend back to USD1232 /oz before the weekend. On the topside, we expect some selling pressure to emerge at USD1240 – USD1250 /oz and will lead the trend into sideways in case of recovery this week. As the U.S. Government is conducting the mid-term election on 6 November, the eventual direction of Dollar will play as main catalyst to lead the yellow metal.

WTI Crude prices broke our support at USD64 /barrel and settled at USD62.80 /barrel on Friday. Technically, we still foresee the strong buying interest at USD62 – USD64 /barrel region that might bounce off the trend this week. For the time being, upside target is limited to USD68 /barrel in case of price recovery.  In November, the dispute and waivers on Iranian sanction might create some whipsaw in the market but range-trading is expected to be capped beneath USD70 /barrel.

Silver prices has cemented at USD14.20 /oz support displayed last week. Currently, market is trading at topside region though the range is still contained from USD14.20 – USD14.90 /oz region. This week, we forecast the trend may consolidate in sideways direction but piercing above USD14.90 /oz will drive higher to test USD15.50 /oz as our next target.

Crude Palm Oil (FCPO) Futures on Bursa Derivatives reached bottom at RM2108 /MT in more than 3-year low before rebound higher for weekend closing. Recovery of prices might have come from proposed free trade agreement between India and Malaysia. January contract closed at RM2152 /MT on Friday. This week, we foresee the market will likely recover with based support formed at RM2100 /MT level. Topside is still limited to RM2200 /MT that needs to be violated in case of further rise.
